"things you didn't know about zebras"

Are Zebras Black with White Stripes or White with Black Stripes?

According to the principles of embryology real/original color of zebra is BLACK. White color is actually the strip around the main black background of zebras. Though there is a popular belief that zebras were white animals with black stripes but scientifically it is the opposite.
There is no denying that zebras are without a doubt one of the most exotic and stunning horse species.

There are three species of zebras:
also known as the common zebra, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. Its range is fragmented, but spans much of southern and eastern Africa south of the Sahara

Mountain zebras are found on mountain slopes, open grasslands, woodlands, and areas with sufficient vegetation, but their preferred habitat is mountainous terrain, especially escarpment with a diversity of grass species.

The Grévy's zebra lives in semi-arid grasslands where it feeds on grasseslegumes, and browse; it can survive up to five days without water. It differs from the other zebra species in that it does not live in harems and has few long-lasting social bonds.

When the researchers put various colored cloth coats on horses, the zebra-patterned coat led to a drastic drop in how many flies they saw landing on a horse's covered body. Below, the vertical axis measures the average number of fly landings observed per half hour. But horses wearing the zebra-striped coat had about the same number of flies land on their uncovered heads as those in solid white or black coats. Flies seem to stay away from stripes, but stripes at a distance don't protect the horses.

Each species of zebra has different types of stripes

arying in width and pattern distribution. Curiously, the farther south on the African plains the zebra lives, the father apart its stripes will be. Within each species, no two zebras have the same stripes; they are as unique as fingerprints.
